Montecristo cigars in the size range 1 to 5, which are still made today, were launched in 1935. The name comes from the Alexandre Dumas novel The Count of Montecristo which at the time was a firm favourite when read to the cigar rollers (Tocedores) in the factory. This link was continued with the launch of the Edmundo size which is named after Edmundo Dantes the hero of the Count of Montecristo novel.
